Tenets of Taekwon-Do
- Courtesy (Ye Ui / 예의)
- Showing courtesy to all, respecting others, having manners as well as maintaining the appropriate etiquette at all times, both within and outside the dojang (도장) (designated training area).
- Integrity (Yom Chi / 염치)
Although it may be similar, this form of integrity takes on a more wider role then defined in the common dictionary. In Taekwondo, integrity means not only to determine what is right or wrong but also having the conscience to feel guilt if one has done wrong and to have the integrity stand up for what is right.
Perseverance (In Nae / 인내)
One will persevere time and time again until they have achieved a result which is adequate towards what one was trying to achieve.
Self-control (Guk Gi / 극기)
This means to not only have control over one’s physical acts, but also their mental thoughts and actions.
Indomitable spirit (Baekjul Boolgool / 백절불굴)
To have indomitable spirit means to have the courage to stand up for what you believe in, no matter what odds you are up against, and to always give 100% effort in whatever you do.

Wise words from Mr Priestley
I came across this quote yesterday in a book written by Rhonda Byrne and I knew, I just knew you would all enjoy it and see the humour.
“I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.” J B Priestley (1894-1984) Writer and Playwright.

Tigers run free in South Shields
Every Tuesday at 4:30, our Little Tiger Cubs run free at Mortimer C.A. Reading Road, NE33 4UG which is lucky for us as it is difficult to get infants to stand still for too long.
It is even a challenge to get our young ones to stand still for a photo opportunity.
We would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to Ryan, who has just been promoted to 1st Cub.
Black Belt Training with Senior Master Harkess
The Wearside Warriors have been invited by Mr William McElhone and the UKTC North East to attend black belt training with Senior Master Harkess this May.
Gateshead Leisure Centre, Alexandra Road, Gateshead, NE8 4JA.
Sunday May 27th – 4pm to 6pm.
Attending students are instructed to arrive 20 minutes early for registration.
Training Fee = £15/person
Those students seeking to be eligible to take their Black Belt grading in the near future are recommended to attend, more details are available from your Instructor.

It’s Ross Time
Today, Ross is a Taekwon-Do student. Ross joined our Little Tiger Cubs fifteen months ago at Crowtree Leisure Centre, Sunderland, and has been an absolute pleasure to teach.
Ross is now our latest student to be promoted from the Little Tiger Cubs to our Taekwon-Do Juniors class at Crowtree.
Our young students respond positively to simple goals which include award stickers, certificates and the ultimate reward of promotion to a Taekwon-Do student.

Incredible Ultimate Taekwon-Do Video
Two of our Taekwon-Do brethren – Mark Harkess and Timothy Folkema – shared this absolutely awesome video that has just been published.
The title of the video speaks for itself, please watch in awe;
We all have Special Needs
We all have challenges in our lives, these challenges shape the kind succesful people we become. Everyone is welcome at our classes, Taekwon-Do has some training secrets that have helped thousands of students over the years that may have been labelled as “Disabled”, or “Special Needs”.
You may be surprised to learn that ten percent of our students have challenges and some could label these succesful individuals as “Special Needs”. Many ITF schools will report similarly statistics, generally we do not publicize these students. Once they have started learning Taekwon-Do, they are the same as all our students. In fact, all our students benefit from learning and sharing each others challenges.
“There is no such thing as a problem merely an opportunity to shine”
If you, or a loved one, has a challenge that you wish to overcome, come for a free lesson and learn how Taekwon-Do can benefit you or a loved one. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this video from our friends at Hawkes Bay Taekwon-Do School, New Zealand;

Remember The Nissan Grading
This gallery contains 1 photo.
Over four years ago, on April 12th, we held a white belt and colour belt grading at Nissan Sports and Social Club. We felt a few of you would enjoy revisiting the moment.
